It's hard to believe that Starship Troopers with its criticism of propaganda and totalitarianism was misunderstood by the US reviewers at the time. However, what the first part has in advance of the successors is the inimitable structure of suspense and tension. The logistical planning and (failed) implementation in Prague is already captivating but is even surpassed by the break-in into the Langley vault. The scene that has become a legend by now, in which Cruise penetrates from above into the room monitored by lasers, can hardly be missed in nail-biting fever.
