Randle Patrick McMurphy, a pathological criminal and rebel, is transferred from a penal colony to a psychiatric clinic to determine whether or not he is mentally ill. At the clinic, he discovers that the ward is controlled by a cold-blooded, strict and routine-obsessed head nurse, Mildred Ratched. McMurphy intends to disobey the absurd, in his opinion, rules and at the same time to have fun from the heart. His rebellious nature infects the other patients, but Nurse Ratched is determined to stop it.

He hires student Jane to do chores at his country house, where he is conducting experiments on three chimpanzees. When Jane arrives at the house, she sees an orangutan named Link. One day the professor goes into town to negotiate the sale of Voodoo, a female chimpanzee. But soon Jane finds Voodoo's dead body in the house. After that, the man who came after Link dies, and the professor himself mysteriously disappears.
