The not-too-distant future. 17 years ago, a man-made catastrophe occurred on the planet. Where forests and orchards used to grow, now there is snow and ice, and life is preserved only in a giant train rushing non-stop along the trans-Eurasian highway. In the first cars of the train live the ruling elite, in the last cars - ordinary people. Life in the back of the train resembles a concentration camp - disease, poverty and lawlessness of overseers. It is here that a man rises from among the humiliated and insulted to restore justice.

Seeking shelter from a rainstorm that has caused landslides and washed out all the roads in a remote area of Wales, several lost travelers find shelter in a gloomy mansion. It belongs to the strange Femme family - atheist Horace and his sister Rebecca, a religious fanatic and vicious fury.

Travelers Roger Penderel, Philip and Margaret Waverton are so tired and drenched that they suppress their fear when they meet the door-opener, a scary-looking servant or butler, a mute and lame Morgan. They are soon joined by the rather frisky and eccentric Sir William Porterhouse and his fiery friend Gladys DuCane, who also hasten to take shelter from the rain in the house. None of them would have stayed in this old house for anything if not for dire need.

A church mission leads two young Mormon women to the door of the seemingly harmless Mr. Reed. The man invites them in to talk about religion, assuring them that his wife is baking a pie and will soon join them, but the girls begin to suspect something amiss. They fail to sneak away, and soon find out that instead of pie, they will be subjected to subtle abuse and a real test of faith.

The businessman offers a bizarre deal. If they prevent the Kazakh president's state visit on Christmas Eve, he'll pay off the debt. Enis and his ally see only one option: they enlist a notorious skinhead to carry out the mission.
