And he's at the end-after he has a heroin addict friend in his life, after he's already spent years in a world of drug-induced oblivion, ending up in police and prison, after his face was mangled in one of the fights. Maybe because the movie was made a few months before the musician's death, throughout the whole movie, one can't help feeling that the director, as if sensing Chet's close passing, gives him a chance to say goodbye.
