Her boyfriend was killed right in front of her in the car while they were watching a movie at an outdoor theater. Justice writes poetry and has shut herself off from the world behind a wall of grief. She works at a hair salon, and all her friends tell her she needs to move on. Giving in to the persuasion of one of them, she heads to Oakland with her and two other Black guys who work as mail carriers. After long arguments and bickering, she falls in love with one of them—both find in this a remedy for their bitter past.

An elderly man, barely breathing after being bitten by a strange plant, is brought to the hospital. While the doctors were trying to figure out what had happened, a worm crawled out of the already dead man and began to grow at an alarming rate.
