Vietnam War veteran Travis Bickle drives his lonely cab through the nighttime streets of the endless city, and before him unfolds a grim panorama of human sin. Like an Old Testament prophet, he hopes that one day the heavens will send a saving rain that will cleanse New York of centuries of filth.
And when hope dies, only hate remains. A fiery downpour will fall on the heads of sinners. The cabbie will take care of it.
