The city needs heroes. Darkness has enveloped New York in the form of Shredder and his sinister Foot Clan, who have ironclad control over everyone from cops to politicians. The future looks bleak until a foursome of outcast brothers, the Ninja Turtles, rise from the sewers and reveal their purpose. The Turtles must work together with intrepid reporter April and her sarcastic cameraman Vern Fenwick to save the city and unravel Shredder's diabolical plan.

Former CIA agent, elderly African-American Robert McCall, has decided to start his life anew, leave his troubled past behind and look to the future, just as he promised his late wife. He has already found a regular job as a store clerk. One day, McCall stands up for a young prostitute, Teri, with whom he has been chatting at a local diner and who is under the control of the Russian mob. McCall ends his voluntary retirement and begins his own quest for justice. All those who suffer from criminal masterminds, corrupt officials and cannot find help from the state find help in the person of McCall. He will help. Because he is the great equalizer.
