Louise has to go to the same fast-food restaurant every morning - she works there as a waitress. She has a boyfriend, a musician, who often forgets about her lover while touring roadside eateries. After marrying Darryl, the energetic and formerly cheerful Thelma discovers that a woman's place is in the kitchen with pots and pans, and a man's place is in the chair in front of the TV.
Of course, this life does not suit the women, and one day the cup of their patience overflows. They decide to get away from the "exhausting" town and from their hated men. Unfortunately, on the way they have to commit a number of crimes, including murder. They are wanted all over America, and the girlfriends have only one thing to do - by any means to get to Mexico.
