Many millennia ago, a group of superhumans with superpowers, the Eternals, were sent to Earth from the planet Olympia. Since prehistoric times, they had been protecting mankind from the attacks of horrible deviant monsters, but any other interference in the development of civilization was forbidden to them.

Early 21st century. Several centuries have already passed since the last deviant was destroyed, when after a strange earthquake a new monster is suddenly announced. Now the Eternals living in different corners of the planet will have to join forces again to face the new threat.

A conscientious policeman dies on active duty trying to expose a gang of scientists who reanimate corpses, who then rob banks without fear.

Accidentally subjected to the same treatment, the dead policeman brings the case to an end by calling his assailants to account.

The main character is over 30. He works as a proofreader in a publishing house and writes prose. He has a mistress, Sabine, a music record saleswoman, and divorces his wife Christine, and their divorce turns out to be the first consensual divorce in France.

His life goes on as usual, until one day Colette, a former lover of Duanel, does not fall into the eyes of his novel, in many ways autobiographical ...

He is weighed down by his position in school and in his family, and seeks to escape from the dull and dreary everyday life. After growing up, Duanel falls in love with and marries Christine, becomes the father of a child, then experiments with adultery, having an uninteresting love affair with Kyoko.
