During an illegal medical experiment, one of the doctors contracts a dangerous virus, mutates, and turns into a bloodthirsty monster. To prevent the virus from spreading, the government decides to seal off all exits from the city and raze it to the ground through bombing. The task of saving the population falls to the local police captain.

Successful novelist Ben Meyers returns to his hometown of Salem after many years away. He sees the ominous Marsten House, which holds unpleasant childhood memories for him. The house has now been purchased by antique dealer Stryker and his mysterious partner, Barlow. A former boyfriend of a supermarket cashier comes to see her just before the end of her shift. The young couple gets into an argument, and a security guard throws the guy out onto the street. The supermarket closes, and the cashiers and stock clerks stay behind to take inventory. Soon, one by one, they begin to die in the most varied ways...

In search of a sudden and mysterious inheritance, Danny and his friends find themselves in Hobbs Springs, an abandoned resort in the mountains of West Virginia. Danny soon learns that his relatives, whom he never knew, led a rather strange lifestyle based on cannibalism. Danny will have to choose between his friends and his relatives.
