"Sugarland Express" is based on the true story of Lou Jean Poplin, who kidnapped an inmate from a Texas prison and engaged police in a frantic statewide chase in an attempt to save her son from his impending adoption by foster parents.

A gang of thugs kidnaps a young high-ranking official and holds him hostage, demanding that the authorities give up their captured leader in exchange. Golden Swallow is sent to deal with the bandits and free the hostage, who is her brother. Although she withstands the struggle with dignity, the enemy strikes her with a poisoned dart. A beggar comes to her aid, who turns out to be a kung fu master in disguise. Together with him, she devises a plan to free her brother.
