Twelve colony planets wage a millennia-long war against a robot-like race of Cylons bent on exterminating humanity. Suddenly, the Cylons, through the mediation of Count Baltar, offer a truce. Only Commander Adama of the Battlestar Galactica suspects that the Cylons have prepared a trap. And so it turns out to be. The Colonial Fleet, along with the President, is killed, and the population of the planets is also massacred. "Galactica takes the survivors aboard and orders all civilian ships to follow her.
